Sleeping

My mother died in December 2024, I was worried about getting old and I went into insomnia, which was one of the worst times in my life. I woke up about 6 months later with little sleep and was soaking wet. I immediately googled it. I had been to several doctors who would not help me and said I was too old for menopause (56 yrs old) I told them my symptoms and got blood tests , of course I had it. I was distraught. My mother never said anything about this, she would have told me about it. Anyways I started researching menopause and I am now on her, the estrogen patch and I take cumin, turmeric, black pepper all in one vitamin to stop the hot flashes and night sweats. But I still can’t go to sleep and I don’t know what to do? Any suggestions out there. I also am very dizzy and have been the whole time. I’ve been to three ent and nothing is wrong with my ears and such. I’m going to start at a chiropractor to work on my C-2 in my neck. Hopefully that works. One of the doctors told me I might be dizzy for the rest of my life. Thanks the wonderful doctors of Indiana.

  1. I can relate to most of your symptoms, as I have the same ones. I'm now in my 70s and still have hot flashes, and have insomnia as well. I can't go to sleep some nights, and a lot of the time I wake up in the night and can't return to sleep for hours.

    1. , I had insomnia for 3 straight months, it is almost 2 years now and I still can’t get to sleep at night! I have researched everything and I have HRT , patch , I also take turmeric, cumin, and black pepper for hot flashes and night sweats! 🥺

    2. I have experienced insomnia for a number of years. It has gotten worse as time goes on. Some nights I can't go to sleep and am up for half the night, When I wake up at night, I'm normally up for a few hours, sometimes more. An example is the magic hour is 2 am and am usually up to about 4 or 6 am. It keeps me so tired.

  2. Thank you, I have never experienced insomnia before, I took Xanax for a long time, after my twin died. But that was 15 yrs ago and I asked my gyno if I needed more progesterone and the doctor said to give it time? If you have not had insomnia you do not know what it feels like and it was one of the worst experiences of my life and I am still having problems, the doctor said to just wait? What is wrong with people.?it seems like know one cares even the doctors!

    1. I am so sorry you are going through this. It is hard to have to continually advocate for yourself when your doctor is dismissive. Some providers (even GYNS) are not up to date on the latest menopause research or treatment options. That does not make them bad doctors, but it may mean they are not the right doctor for this stage of your life. Do you have other options in your community? All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  3. I am so sorry you are going through this, and that your doctors were so dismissive. While 56 is rather late for the onset of menopause symptoms, it's not unheard of. Insomnia can also, unfortunately, come along with menopause symptoms and can be challenging to manage.
